lotus flower

When Simplicity Yoga offered to have my canvases on display at the studio, I started thinking in terms of incorporating spirituality into my art. What blossomed were my Buddha and lotus flower canvases. I enjoy making the petals of the flower out of interesting papers, like glossy, embossed & even newsprint.

In yoga, the lotus represents the Lotus Pose or Padmasana, where the feet and legs represent the petals of the lotus flower. It opens the hips, strengthens the back and creates flexibility in the knees and is a base pose for meditation, chanting and pranayama (breathing techniques).

It’s the most wonderful time of the year…

We always feel the summer is too short. We try to cram an infinite number of events into a very small, finite time frame. We practice the art of staying up way to late, then sleeping in ’til noon. This summer we had leisurely conversations on the porch eating our first meal of the day as MR CFO came in for lunch. And although the summer was awesome, and I love them to death — it is so nice to get those children out the door & back to school!

I am back on track and creating up a storm! I am very happy to share that my canvases are now available at a lovely little store in Uxbridge called Elemi Organics.  They offer naturally-made aromatherapy products ranging from soaps, bath salts & eco soy wax candles to cleaning products for the home. My kindred spirit, Ms Over-Analzyer, bought me my first Elemi product back when the store opened.

Owner/founder Ginny van Veghel has created a wonderfully, relaxed & tranquil setting in her store and I am so thrilled that my canvases have found a home there!

Here is one of my latest canvases and its corresponding greeting card.

Both will soon be in my etsy shop or contact me for further information or custom enquiries.

Although today is a sad anniversary of a horrible day, let us remember, but look forward to tomorrow.

Canvas crazy!

If you are close to me, whether you like it or not, you are probably going to end up with a canvas from me. I love experimenting with different themes and really try to personalize the project to reflect the individual I’m making it for.

For my Mom on Mother’s Day, I created a canvas using a beautiful print by Toronto artist Nancy Falconi that I purchased at the GACAG in Sutton. My Mom loves elephants and so I chose the word “strength” to be the simple statement, reflecting her and one of the themes elephants symbolize. I used a wooden cradle frame with a chunky 2″ frame. It can stand alone or be hung on the wall.

On his birthday, I gave my buddy Mr Rock Star a Pearl Jam canvas made on canvas board. If you’re into Pearl Jam, this will make sense to you. If you aren’t — you should be. I chose this shape of board because I thought it would be conducive to the stick man. There is a lot going on in this canvas. The bigger the fan, the more you’ll see.

This weekend, Miss Know-It-All and I are off to the bustling metropolis of Buffalo to attend the Creative Keepsakes Convention to take some classes, volunteer and of course — shop!
